The Fieldpiece SPK3 Thermometer Folding ROD with Dual Temperature and 8:1 Infrared Gun is a great tool to take induct, ambient quickly , and register temperatures.  It’s a handy pocket thermometer to assess a system soon.  The ROD has a sharp, narrow tip to insert into the ductwork easily, and the hanging hooks allow you to take hands-free measurements.  The bright back lite display flips between the IR and ROD measurements, so readings are always easy to view.  Plus, this handy tool quickly calculates T1 – T2 across the IR and ROD modes or a combination of the two. Use the SPK3 IR and Rod Thermometer to measure swiftly surface temperatures or check the dry bulb inside the ductwork. It has an 8:1 field of view at 16 feet away; you see the average temperature of a 2-foot circle. The backlit display automatically flips into ROD mode for hanging on duct walls.
